Igniting Community Power: MSCL Cohort #2

July 15, 2024

The Movement for Solar Capacity and Leadership (MSCL) is making strides in community empowerment with its second cohort, advancing the mission to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to spearhead solar projects in their communities. This initiative aims to bridge the gap in equitable access to clean energy, providing a platform for amplifying voices, fostering collaboration, and driving tangible change in the fight against climate change.

This year marks a significant expansion for MSCL, growing from 10 to 30 fellows in response to the escalating demand for equitable clean energy solutions. Participants from across the United States convened in Durham, North Carolina, a city renowned for its legacy of resilience and innovation. The program focused on community solar initiatives and federal climate programs, emphasizing the intersection of climate, racial, and economic justice. The rich heritage of Durham served as a backdrop for the fellows as they explored sustainable practices.

Central to the MSCL experience is the “each-one teach-one” approach. Fellows, representing a diverse array of backgrounds including non-profits, NAACP chapters, and grassroots organizations, shared their knowledge and experiences to empower their communities. Weekly Zoom seminars with experts facilitated dynamic discussions and strategic collaborations, reinforcing the program’s collaborative spirit.

MSCL’s expansion underscores its enduring impact and commitment to fostering ongoing collective action towards a more equitable and sustainable future. By joining the MSCL program, participants gain free training in solar development and engage with a community of solar enthusiasts dedicated to illuminating pathways to a brighter, more sustainable future for all. For those interested in being part of this transformative journey, the MSCL program offers an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the clean energy movement and champion the cause of sustainability within their communities.
