Position Overview

Contract Position: indefinite

Part Time: 12-18 hours per week 

Compensation: $35 – $43 / hour (commensurate with experience)

Location: Remote

Hiring date: hopefully by mid April though this is flexible.  

SUMMARY:

The People’s Solar Energy Fund is an innovative member-directed nonprofit advancing energy democracy by supporting the growth of community-led, community-owned solar projects with particular concern for low income and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Color) communities. Moving collectively to aggregate resources, share technical know-how and build a shared commons, PSEF – now in only its fourth year and with an operating budget around $2 million (along with its loan capital) – serves as a commons providing access to funding, technical assistance and shared services to advance the development of community-owned and community-led solar projects. 

PSEF seeks a creative, detail-oriented and highly-motivated consultant to support our fundraising work. The Consultant will work closely and collaboratively with PSEF’s small team and particularly with the Co-Director overseeing development. 

DUTIES:

  • Strategizing and creatively positioning PSEF’s programs.
  • Understanding and powerfully articulating PSEF’s intersectional funding ecosystem (addressing climate justice/solutions, racial justice and economic justice).
  • Aggressively researching funding opportunities, conducting outreach where needed, and following up on leads.
  • Carefully crafting funding proposals and ensuring tailored messaging to potential donors, while effectively communicating PSEF values.
  • Preparing brief updates; supporting grant/funder management and the reporting process – including acknowledging receipt of  grants/investments, and maintaining up-to-date records (in partnership with PSEF’s Operations Director). 
  • Possibly carrying out and tracking the funder/investor screening process and preparing investor update reports.  

Position Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

A) Required 

  • Ten to fifteen years of full-time work experience, preferably within organizations and preferably demonstrating a progression in levels of responsibility.
  • Fundraising experience – with at least 5 years with grants research and writing and at least 2 of these at mid or senior-level experience
  • Creative, innovative thinker who can find effective, compelling angles of our work to match well with funders’ interests. 
  • Good communication skills – able to generate strong, clear and engaging drafts (even if not the perfect editor)
  • A keen sensitivity to centering the voices of low income and BIPOC communities; and experience moving respectfully and with sensitivity between those constituencies and foundation/investment capital providers.
  • Familiarity with climate change/environmental justice/renewable energy, 
  • An enthusiastic and creative spirit, with a passion for PSEF’s mission.
  • Ability to work with the lens of “Just Transition” and “Energy Democracy.” 
  • Highly competent in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, database management, and a multitude of online tools and applications.
  • Fluent English written and oral language skills.

 

B) PREFERRED

  • Actual work or volunteer experience related to the above-named areas.
  • Extensive contacts in our related fields.
  • Prior fund development experience with a related organization.
  • Excellent proofreading/editing.
  • Experience using design platforms (e.g, Canva).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Supervisory Responsibilities: This is a contract position with no supervisory responsibilities.
  • Term of Engagement: The position is a remote contracted consulting position.
  • Hours: We are currently looking for a 12-18 hour per week consultant, with the possibility of expanded hours as mutually agreeable.
  • Schedule: Self-determined but will be agreed upon between consultant and PSEF- preferably between 10am & 5PM ET.
  • Benefits: This is a part time contracted position with no benefits.
